What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced intelligence analyst to play a critical role in countering emerging national security threats by partnering with subject matter experts to conduct in-depth technical analysis of intelligence data from multiple sources. Your work will focus on evaluating hard and advanced technologies and associated capabilities, such as specialized infrastructure and research pipelines, to provide actionable insights that support U.S. intelligence community and Department of War objectives.

This position supports both technical and policy customers within the intelligence community. To ensure your success, we provide formal and informal training during onboarding and throughout your growth in the role.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude for learning, a proactive ¿can-do¿ attitude, comfort working in ambiguity and applying engineering judgement, proactive, and effective collaboration skills. You will work on a dynamic cadence that includes urgent same-day requests as well as longer-term projects spanning several months.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

All-Source Technical Analysis:

• Conduct comprehensive all-source intelligence analysis on technical topics, synthesizing information from various sources including SIGINT, HUMINT, OSINT, MASINT, and GEOINT into clear analytic messages.
• Work comfortably with limited and evolving information to make engineering judgements across various levels of rigor and effectively communicate uncertainties.
• Work comfortably outside your field of expertise while still providing grounded technical insights either by self-learning or through building and collaborating with a network of experts across Sandia National Laboratories.
• Understand U.S. IC tradecraft standards and how to tailor information to your final products.
• Understand and tailor your work to the needs of intelligence end-users in scope, focus, and delivery method.

Analytic Review:

• Conduct analytic reviews outside your area of technical expertise to evaluate the quality and relevance of findings, ensuring analyses are robust, accurate, appropriately caveated, and aligned with customer needs.
• Use critical thinking and analytic techniques to assess source validity and information reliability.

Communication:

• Produce clear, concise, and well-structured findings across a variety of report templates tailored to high-level customers.
• Ensure written products meet established standards and deadlines.
• Prepare and deliver briefings to internal and external partners, communicating complex technical information clearly.

Collaboration:

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, fostering teamwork and shared objectives, including federal sponsors, intelligence community partners, technical experts, scientists, and technologists.

Leadership:

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

Salary Range:

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Active SCI clearance required to start.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D Systems Research and Analysis candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

• Graduate degree in a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
• The ability to understand, synthesize, and draw insights from multiple types of data streams (e.g., technical, economic, policy) through the use of various analytical tools.
• Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary teams examining complex systems.
• Knowledge of the fundamentals of good project management, especially as it pertains to the execution of federally-funded work (e.g., proposal development through annal review, final delivery, and closeout).
• Experience working with federal sponsors in the defense and intelligence sectors, as well as their domestic FFRDC partners, international partnering agencies, and foreign governments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams delivering critical information to customers in a succinct manner.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

• Experience working in the intelligence community, especially in a role requiring the analysis of disparate streams of data to provide insights into emerging threats and evaluate risks and opportunities.

About Our Team:

The primary mission of the Threat Assessments Group (5920) is to assess the threats posed to US national security interests by foreign advanced weapons and technological capabilities, with emphasis on nuclear weapons. Our analyses inform policymakers and senior officials across the US government responsible for understanding the threats and risks posed by these weapons and relevant technologies. This high impact program area is steadily growing and stewards key capabilities associated with all-source intelligence analysis, computational modeling, and engineering studies.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) SCI security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
