The associate director will report to the director of OTES-CP and is responsible for the management of the field experience and student teaching placements for all teacher preparation programs at Ball State University. Perform data analysis to develop cohesive predictive models related to early field experiences and student teaching. Responsibilities include securing field placement sites, monitoring student field placements, and coordination with assigned faculty and university supervisors. Serve as a liaison with Indiana department of education and consult on the application of legislative mandates. Design and implement EPP-wide professional development for all teacher education candidates.

The Office of Teacher Education Services and Clinical Practice at Ball State University invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Placements and Student Teaching. Our operation is seeking an organized, collegial, student-centered, and advocacy-oriented individual to collaborate with an outstanding team of professionals who focus on both undergraduate and graduate teacher education. This AAEE recognized office has 6 full-time staff members and 33 adjunct faculty serving graduate and undergraduate students through programs, licensure, and field experiences. Reporting directly to the director, the associate director will champion the field placement operation of the largest preparer of teacher educators in the State of Indiana and fifth in the nation.

Located in Muncie, Ind., Ball State's field operation under this office in particular sees 2,000+ pre-student teaching events each year and 300+ student teachers.

Job Function:

The associate director will report to the director of OTES-CP and is responsible for the management of the field experience and student teaching placements for all teacher preparation programs at Ball State University. Perform data analysis to develop cohesive predictive models related to early field experiences and student teaching. Responsibilities include securing field placement sites, monitoring student field placements, and coordination with assigned faculty and university supervisors. Serve as a liaison with Indiana department of education and consult on the application of legislative mandates. Design and implement EPP-wide professional development for all teacher education candidates.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college by date of appointment.

Preferred Education:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in teacher education, or a related area, by date of appointment.

Minimum Experience:

2 years of related experience in a k-12 educational setting. Such as administrative, instructional, or other professional roles.

Preferred Experience:

Two years (2) years full time licensed (valid or expired) teaching experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management of the field experiences and student teaching placements for all teacher preparation programs at Ball State University. Research best practices in field experiences and make recommendations regarding policy and practice changes. Review and implement approved EPP-wide field experience requests and ensure compliance and best practice.

  • Identify and analyze student and faculty field placement experience data to utilize and inform department and faculty initiatives. Generate self-study narrative and analyze data to support accreditation activities. Participate in related committees.


  • Developing and presenting faculty and student field placement and student teaching orientations. Evaluate effectiveness of orientation and make updates as necessary


  • Recruit school systems to participate in the field placement and the student teaching program. Maintain partnerships with current school systems and resolve issues. Negotiate field placement contracts.


  • Initiate all student teaching early release and substitute teaching authorization and meetings with local school corporations, department faculty, and mentor classroom teachers.

  • Serve as a liaison with Indiana department of education and consult on the application of legislative mandates. Design and implement EPP-wide professional development for all teacher education candidates.

  • Evaluate data reports and consult with departments to determine the readiness of students to begin the student teaching internship and their degree to completion status. Responsible for notifying school corporation of determination.


  • Advise, coordinate, and implement student teaching placements within the elementary and secondary transition to teaching programs, as well as Speech Language Pathology.
  • Supervise and evaluate the staff positions of student teaching coordinator (projected 2024-25) and early field experiences coordinator.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
